Marlborough

A travel guide I was reading recently, summed Marlborough up somewhat unfortunate with its transport, as well as diplomatically stating that it is somewhat limited in its appeal. Anyone who has travelled the adjacent stretch of Bruce Highway will fully understand this.

The unfortunate part of the transport story starts in 1917 when the railway arrived, some 5 km distant from the town. Apparently the town was moved to be nearer to the railway, suggestive that its not a particularly large settlement. Then, after the importance of the railway diminished, a deviation to the Bruce Highway was constructed, bypassing the town.
