North Geelong started life as West Geelong in 1883, but was renamed to North Geelong by 1886. Three signal boxes once controlled the yards, sidings and junctions around this area, but now only ‘C’ Box remains in use. Many trains still stop at North Geelong, but its a rather suburban looking station these days, with the disused North Geelong B box sitting forlorn and neglected at the Up end of the Down Platform. The photos in our gallery date back to 1986, when the wooden station and shelters were still in the final couple of years of their existence.
History and information about North Geelong and the three associated boxes can be found at Andrew Waugh’s VR History site via a 19 page PDF download. At Vicrail stations, there is some more recent photos, taken while the semaphores were still in existence. Vicsig has images and history on North Geelong, focusing more on the yards around the area than the station.
As you would expect from a Geelong based website, there is vast amounts of info about North Geelong at the Rail Geelong Website.

North Geelong Station
North Geelong VIC 3215, Australia
At North Geelong – C Box is still alive and well and not closed. Only A and B boxes have closed since the re-signalling a few years ago. Also the lop bracket post at the down end of North Geelong signalled all trains from Ballarat towards Geelong as they couldn’t get into the down platform so used the up platform instead and then crossed over to the down line on departure.
